Now you can see what she looks like Fog Free! The Federal Yukon Departs Duluth with Petroleum Coke!
Pictures of the arrival at DuluthShipPhotography
About this visit:
They arrived Duluth MN through the thick fog June 01, 2024 at 10:11 in the morning, cruising through that fog at a strong clip of 6.2 kts! They were arriving to load Petroleum coke at the SMET dock. The Yukon arrived at SMET at 11:25 with tug assist from Missouri and began loading the Petcoke. They completed the load and departed SMET June 02 at 15:13, making their way down the not foggy anymore river to depart Duluth. They pulled out of town at 16:06 at 5.4 kts, heading to Hull United Kingdom!
Info on Petroleum Coke from Wikipedia:
Petroleum coke, abbreviated coke, pet coke or petcoke, is a final carbon-rich solid material that derives from oil refining, and is one type of the group of fuels referred to as cokes. Petcoke is the coke that, in particular, derives from a final cracking process-a thermo-based chemical engineering process that splits long chain hydrocarbons of petroleum into shorter chains-that takes place in units termed coker units.[1] (Other types of coke are derived from coal.) Stated succinctly, coke is the "carbonization product of high-boiling hydrocarbon fractions obtained in petroleum processing (heavy residues)".[1] Petcoke is also produced in the production of synthetic crude oil (syncrude) from bitumen extracted from Canada's tar sands and from Venezuela's Orinoco oil sands.[2][3] In petroleum coker units, residual oils from other distillation processes used in petroleum refining are treated at a high temperature and pressure leaving the petcoke after driving off gases and volatiles, and separating off remaining light and heavy oils. These processes are termed "coking processes", and most typically employ chemical engineering plant operations for the specific process of delayed coking.
This coke can either be fuel grade (high in sulfur and metals) or anode grade (low in sulfur and metals). The raw coke directly out of the coker is often referred to as green coke.[1] In this context, "green" means unprocessed. The further processing of green coke by calcining in a rotary kiln removes residual volatile hydrocarbons from the coke. The calcined petroleum coke can be further processed in an anode baking oven to produce anode coke of the desired shape and physical properties. The anodes are mainly used in the aluminium and steel industry.
Petcoke is over 80% carbon and emits 5% to 10% more carbon dioxide (CO2) than coal on a per-unit-of-energy basis when it is burned. As petcoke has a higher energy content, petcoke emits between 30% and 80% more CO2 than coal per unit of weight.[3] The difference between coal and coke in CO2 production per unit of energy produced depends upon the moisture in the coal, which increases the CO2 per unit of energy - heat of combustion - and on the volatile hydrocarbons in coal and coke, which decrease the CO2 per unit of energy.

Duluth MN July 04 Fireworks! REAL TIME The Whole Show!
Переглядів 1,2 тис.День тому
Bummer, they started 10 minutes earlier than scheduled! Kind of put me and guessing a lot of others a little out of "sync", getting into position. They did the same thing 2021! Schedule it for one time, light them off at another. Either Way, Real Time, no speeding it up. A little Windy, but a great 62 deg F making it an excellent evening. The wind kept the MN State Bird (Mosquito) at bay! Enjoy!

Still a great view. I know it messes you up when they don't stick to the schedule, but maybe there were extenuating circumstances that made it necessary to go early. When we had the kids at home we would always take them down to the Arch (St. Louis) to watch the fireworks on the river. But now, the kids are all out and on their own and we are retired so we just put our lawn chairs out in the middle of the driveway, sit back and watch the show(s). We live in a county outside St. Louis that allows the selling, buying and shooting of fireworks and there is a lake with a lot of common ground a stones throw away so there is no shortage of fireworks to see here. But the professional shows are still the best. Thanks for the video.

Correct on the camera counts, most of the time 4, and one more camera for the audio. If I am not on the bike, it normally goes down to 3 or 2. A full set up takes about 10 Minutes ( using the bike) I normally set up about 15 minutes before the lift, makes it easier to set up without the crowds converving on the Piers. About the same on the take-down.

I think the double salute was because the bridge camera was several seconds behind the canal camera or vice-versa. I’ve seen it happen before.
